FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s wrong with traditional dry cleaning?

Perc, the solvent used by 90% of dry cleaners, is listed as a suspected carcinogen by the EPA, can damage the central nervous and reproductive systems, and has already been banned in Southern California. Petroleum solvents used by most of the remaining dry cleaners, and often promoted as environmentally safe, are toxic and contribute to smog and global warming.

What cleaning process do you use?

We use a water-based process called professional wet cleaning, developed in Germany in 1991. This process involves sophisticated equipment, specially formulated natural soaps and conditioners, and extensive expertise that allow us to clean dry clean only clothes in water. When you clean with water, garments get much cleaner and feel softer with no chemical odor. Whites get really white, and all colors look brighter. We have been using the professional wet cleaning process since 1995, longer than anyone else in the United States.

Can water damage fabrics and colors?

The soaps we use include elements that coat and protect the fibers so fabrics can be immersed in water. Our process carefully controls the other factors that can damage fibers and dyes - time, temperature and mechanical action. The soaps are designed to effectively clean and disinfect in cold water without agitation.

What can be cleaned in this process?

We clean everything traditional dry cleaners clean, and more. Our process is safe on all garments and all fabrics, leathers, rugs, and comforters. Unlike traditional dry cleaning solvents, water is not harmful to most beading and trim. Wedding gowns are exquisitely cleaned and preserved. Smoke or water damaged garments restore beautifully.

Are you more expensive?

We are comparably priced to other quality cleaners in the Chicago area. We do not compete with discount cleaners. Instead we offer a premium service at reasonable prices.

Do you recycle?

We accept all the packaging materials we send out back for reuse or recycling including hangers, pins, paper and plastic bags. We also offer a reusable nylon garment bag with a shoulder strap for customers wishing to reduce plastic packaging.
